Speak Up for Firefighter Health

Ask your elected officials to continue to support the Hometown Heroes Assistance Program

In 2021, the state of Minnesota passed the Hometown Heroes Assistance Program (HHAP), earmarking $4 million dollars a year allowing MnFIRE to offer training and benefits improving firefighter health and wellness across the state.

Currently, these confidential resources are available to all active volunteer, paid-on-call, part-time and full-time Minnesota firefighters at no cost to them or their departments.

We’re proud of what we have built, and we need to keep this going.

Now, we ask that you contact your elected officials to demonstrate your support for firefighter health and ask that they continue to fund the Hometown Heroes Assistance Program. We need to ensure these life-saving resources are available for years to come.

We recognize that not everyone has the time, or the comfort level, to craft a letter to lawmakers. That’s why we’ve created this example email to help. Not only does this letter provide basic information to educate legislators on the importance of the HHAP, it also offers you the opportunity to share your personal connection to the cause.

Nothing is more powerful for policymakers than hearing directly from their constituents about why the HHAP is important and how it’s making an impact.

Not sure who your legislators are? You can easily find out by visiting the Minnesota Legislative Coordinating Commission’s website. After entering your home address, contact information for your elected officials will be provided to you.

Thank you for taking the time to speak up in support of Minnesota’s firefighters.
